Introduction
I am pleased that the sculpture of David Hayes was available for loan to the University of Central Florida. These works, created by the artist over a period of the last twenty years add a new aesthetic dimension to the area surrounding the Burnett Honors College. I would like to thank David M. Hayes, the artist's son, for his diligent work on the project, Dean Allyn Stearman, for seeking university approval of the loan of these works, and the University Campus Planning Committee for their overwhelming support.
As a result of this exhibition, there is a proposal to designate
sites around the campus that would accommodate traveling sculpture
exhibitions and work on loan from recognized artists and important
collections. It has been a pleasure to witness the positive reactions
to these works by the students and the faculty. This exhibition
marks the beginning of an expanded emphasis on the visual arts
at UCF. It is the beginning of a tradition that is in keeping
with our new strategic plan to incorporate creative activities
and research into our day-to-day activities.
