David Hayes at Florida International University
Showcasing 13 large-scale steel sculptures by David Hayes on the Biscayne Bay Campus of Florida International University has continued our university tradition of supporting the arts and acting as a venue for public art. The Frost Art Museum at FIU numbers many diverse sculptures among its collections, and is home to the Martin Z. Margulies Sculpture Park, a breathtaking tropical setting for over 80 modern and contemporary pieces. The work of Mr. Hayes, an acclaimed American modern master, has been a welcome addition and a complement to our repertoire.
The large format that Hayes has employed, the often startling
color choices, and the interplay of brilliant tropical light on
his purposefully shaped forms have all emphasized the arresting
expressivity of this body of work, making it a great source of
enjoyment and creative stimulus for our student body and the many
visitors we also have daily on our campus.
The Frost Art Museum is proud to help him reach an audience that
would not have ready access to his sculptures in a traditional
setting. It has been a pleasure to work with and present the work
of David Hayes, and we are indebted to the invaluable assistance
provided to us by Mr. Hayes and his sons David and John Marc.
